Alfa Romeo GT Engines

Alfa Romeo GT – If you are not familiar with an Alfetta GT, then read on. It is the cousin of the more famous GTV. It is a four cylinder front engine car. The clutch, transmission and differential are located in the rear. This gives the car a nearly perfect weight distribution that results in excellent handling. It has four wheel disc brakes and inboard brakes on the rear. Alfa was ahead of its time in engineering when they were first manufactured.

The Alfa Romeo GT of their newer range from the Alfetta GT is a sports car produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo since 2004. The engine range includes 2.0 petrol engine, a 1.9 MultiJet turbo diesel, and top-of-the-range 3.2 V6 petrol.

The GT is positioned as a luxurious Grand Tourer in Alfa Romeo’s range, and sits alongside the more sporting Brera (which is based on the newer mid-size Alfa 159 sedan/saloon car.) Both cars can be viewed as successors to the 916-series GTV.

The GT has been widely acclaimed for its attractive styling and purposeful good looks.

For the environment

JTD diesel engine scores high on our chart of greenness thanks to 42.2 mpg average fuel consumption – but the V6 petrol version is very thirsty.

The Engines

The 240 PS (177 kW; 237 hp) 3.2-litre V6 offers good all-round performance but is prone to torque steer while the 1.9-litre JTD turbo diesel has proven to be a popular choice in comparison to the petrol 2.0-litre engine. The 3.2-litre V6 petrol unit is positioned as the ‘sports’ option with its large power output and distinctive Alfa Romeo exhaust note, unique to the Alfa V6 family of engines. The 2.0L petrol has direct injection and is an improvement on the older 2.0L petrol unit found in the Alfa 156 on which the GT is based, with an increase of 15 PS (11.0 kW; 14.8 bhp) and better fuel consumption.

The 1.9 direct injection diesel unit is the most popular option; the high torque output at low revs gives more of a feeling of power at “normal” road speeds compared to the 2.0-litre petrol which requires much higher revs to produce its maximum power output and is best suited to being driven hard. This combined with the significant gain in fuel economy (see statistics below) make the diesel a popular choice. The economy of the diesel combined with the power and 6 speed gearboxes make it a real GT car with a range of around 600 miles (970 km) per tank at motorway speeds.

The GT consists of 3.2 liter V6 engine that delivers an output power of 237 hp and this engine is mostly featured in sports versions. Over the years, the engines used in the GT are listed below:

1.8 TS I4 engine: The capacity of this engine is 1747 cc that delivers an output power of 103 KW at 6500 rpm and 163 NM torque at 3900 rpm. It reaches the speed of 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds and the top speed is about 200 km/h.

2.0 JTS I4 engine: The capacity of this engine is 1970 cc that delivers an output power of 121 KW at 6400 rpm and 206 NM torque at 3250 rpm. It reaches the speed of 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and the top speed is about 216 km/h.

3.2 V6 engine: The capacity of this engine is 3179 cc that delivers an output power of 177 KW at 6200 rpm and 289 NM torque at 4800 rpm. It reaches the speed of 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and the top speed is about 243 km/h.
