Their intrinsic qualities reduce fuel consumption and bring a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions. The use of Common Rail technology explains these excellent performance levels. A single rail supplies the four injectors with fuel at a pressure of up to 1,350 bars. An electronic control system optimises the fuel/air mixture in all conditions of use.

With vehicles fitted with a particulate filter it is vitally important that no fuel or oil additives are used. The 2-litre HDi 138 16 valve engine develops 100 kW CEE (138 bhp DIN ) for maximum torque of 320 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The overboost function increases maximum torque to 340 Nm at 2,000rpm at full engine load. This engine is available with or without the Diesel Particulate Filter System (DPFS), depending on the country. The DPFS version meets the Euro IV emission standard. This new HDi 173 DPFS diesel engine developing 173 is equipped with a particulate filter (DPFS) and bhp DIN (125 kW or 170 bhp EEC) mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

This new HDi 208 DPFS V6 diesel engine combines power and fuel economy. Delivering a responsive performance from the lowest engine speeds, it develops 150 kW EEC (208 bhp DIN) at 4,000 rpm and torque of 440 Nm EEC at 1,900 rpm. This engine combines smooth, gradual power with exceptional operating comfort. With capacity of 2,720 cm3, this engine features four overhead camshafts and 24 valves, with common-rail direct multi-injection and two variable-geometry turbochargers. The use of Common Rail technology explains these excellent performance levels. A single rail supplies the four injectors with fuel at a pressure of up to 1,350 bars. An electronic control system optimises the fuel/air mixture in all conditions of use.

The Hybride HDi introduces several innovative features :

  • Recovery of kinetic energy during deceleration and braking,
  • All-electric mode, or Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV), eliminating noise and emissions for urban driving at up to 50 kilometres an hour,
  • Extended ZEV mode, in which electrical power is used by default, depending on the battery charge level. For main road and motorway driving, the electric motor can provide a 35% power boost for extra acceleration when needed, thereby enhancing driving comfort.
  • Petrol, 1.1i 60 ch DIN. This 1.1i engine develops 44.1 kW EEC (60 DIN bhp) at 5,500 rpm and torque of 94 Nm at 3,400 rpm.

The C2 is available with two engines: 1.1 44.1 kW (61 bhp) petrol engine, HDi 70 to 50 kW (70 bhp) diesel engine.

The C3 is available with two engines: 1.1 44.1 kW (61 bhp) petrol engine, HDi 70 50 kW (70 bhp) diesel engine.

The C4 is available with two diesel engines: 1.6 HDi 92 and the 1.6 HDi 110 and coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

THE C5 173HDi DPFS engine: If you want your next car to have one of the best diesel engines for performance and fuel consumption, look no further than the new 173 bhp HDi DPFS, it gives you even more performance, more fuel economy and fewer emissions. A parallel sequential dual turbo – a world first on a 4-cylinder diesel engine – gives your drive more torque at low speeds, quicker response times, and enhanced performance at both low and high speeds.

The C6 engine has 215hp 3.0i V6 Petrol powerhouse and the potent 208hp 2.7HDi V6 Diesel or the innovative and highly efficient 173hp DPFS 2.2HDi Diesel with enhanced environmental credentials and enviable fuel economy. Less pollution, less consumption, but no less luxury.

Berlingo NGV: substantial savings in running costs, Citroën proposes a dual petrol/NGV* version for the Berlingo 1.4i (600 and 800 kg).

This version meets the dual need to respect the environment and cut operating costs for local authorities and companies with special purpose fleets (e.g. city use, airport services etc.). The chemical makeup of NGV contains half as many carbon atoms as regular petrol and cuts CO2 emissions by 25%. Also, NGV fuel emits no sulphur oxide, lead or other particles. The Berlingo NGV operates with natural gas and is easy to use. It switches automatically to petrol when the gas tank runs empty. Natural gas is injected directly into the cylinder head through four specialised injectors. This sequential multipoint injection maximises fuel consumption, enhances performance and upholds driving comfort.
