Honda is known as the leader in creating four-stroke engines that are reliable, at enginesandgearboxes.co.uk you can find used, reconditioned or secondhand car engines.

The Honda Insight hybrid contains a 1.0L 3-cylinder engine, Honda car engines smallest automotive engine and recipient of the International Engine of the Year award in 2000. The Insight uses the first generation of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid technology.

(The next generation, used in the Honda Civic Hybrid, is much more space-efficient.) The Insight has a 3-cylinder 1.0 Liter engine and a brushless electric motor located on the crankshaft. A computer control module regulates how much power comes from the internal combustion engine, and how much from the electric motor; in the CVT variant, it also finds the optimal gear ratio. The Beat’s engine did not utilize a turbocharger or supercharger.

The 656 cc engine was modified with the MTREC (Multi Throttle Responsive Engine Control) system, which included one throttle valve for each of the three cylinders, to produce 64 PS (48 kW) at 8100 1/min. Only a manual transmission was available. The MTREC design would filter down to the 1993 Honda Today kei car.

Honda Inline 4-cylinder

The number in the engine code gives the approximate displacement of the engine. e.g. B18A would have an approximate displacement of 1.8L, H22A1 would have an approximate displacement of 2.2L. The straight-4 or inline-4 is an internal combustion engine with four cylinders aligned in one row. Nicknamed a four-banger, this straight engine configuration is the most common in cars with a displacement up to 2.3 Litres.

The current “practical” limit to the displacement of Straight-4 engines in a car is around 2.7 litres. However, in tractors and other construction machinery, four-cylinder diesel engines with a displacement of 4.5 litres and above can still be found. Most straight-4 engines below 2.0 L in displacement rely on the damping effect of their engine mounts. Today, most engineers will make use of balance shafts above that limit. A 4-cylinder engine needs two balance shafts, rotating at twice the crankshaft frequency, to be smooth.

The Honda G series engine is an inline 5 cylinder gasoline engine, originally used in the 1992 Acura Vigor. In 1996 the 2.5 TL was made available with the 2.5 L 176 hp (131 kW) SOHC 20-valve 5-cylinder engine from the Vigor. In 1999 the 2.5L engine was dropped from the TL line-up.

The Honda B-series DOHC engines are popular automotive engines from the modern series of Honda engines. They are good performers from the factory having models with around 126hp to around 200hp and even some models having a redline over 8,000 rpm. They accept high performance modifications well without much risk to reliability.

The engine has been made in 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, and 2.0 liter variants, with and without VTEC (variable valve timing and electronic lift control). Later models have some minor upgrades, for instance modifications to the intake valves and ports and piston tops, and moving the dipstick away from the exhaust manifold.

Today, Honda offer a full line of engines, 1.0 to 24 HP, in both horizontal and vertical shaft designs.

Our Overhead Valve models have a lightweight design for reduced fuel and oil consumption. Honda engines meet current CARB and EPA standards and offer enhanced performance, all with no change to existing external dimensions. And all Honda engines are produced in manufacturing facilities that are certified to ISO 9000 standards.

Honda’s high-end line of cars are branded Acura, Accord, Airwave, Ascot, Beat, Caren, City, Civic, CR-X del Sol, Civic Hybrid, Concerto, CR-V, Element, Odyssey, Pilot, Prelude, Honda Quintet, Shuttle, Honda Z and many more.
