Bentley Brookland’s engine innovation over the years

The Bentley Brooklands is a full-size luxury car introduced for 1992 as a replacement for the Bentley Mulsanne. It was intended as a slightly cheaper alternative to the Bentley Turbo R, featuring the same styling, underpinnings and the Rolls-Royce 6.75 litre V8 engine, but without the more powerful model’s turbocharger.

Technical specifications (1992-1997)

The 1992-1997 Brooklands was driven by a 6.75 litre Rolls Royce V8 engine.

2008 Brooklands Coupé

The Brooklands is powered by a 6.75 litre Rolls-Royce twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 530 horsepower (395 kW) and 1,050 newton metres (774 ft·lbf), the highest torque ever developed by a production V8 engine. It can achieve 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 97 km/h) in around 5.0 seconds, and a top speed in the region of 296 kilometres per hour (183.9 mph). With an optional Carbon fibre-reinforced Silicon Carbide (C/SiC) ceramic composite braking system with 14 inches (355.6 mm) SGL Carbon brake discs (only with 20 inch roadwheels), the new Brooklands offers more stopping power than any passenger vehicle currently available for purchase.

Brooklands Specifications:

  • maximum rated motive power: 530 horsepower (395 kW; 537 PS) at 4,000 rpm
  • maximum torque: 1,050 newton metres (774 ft·lbf) at 3,250 rpm
  • 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 97 km/h): 5.0 seconds
  • 0 to 100 kilometres per hour (0 to 62 mph): 5.3 seconds
  • Top speed: 296 kilometres per hour (183.9 mph)
  • 0 to 100 miles per hour (0 to 161 km/h): 11.7 seconds
The Engine

This performance is achieved by the introduction of a new free-flowing air induction system, sports exhaust with rifled detailing and the re-calibration of the valve timing and engine management system. The main philosophy behind the record outputs being to unlock the power potential of the V8 and to allow it to breathe more efficiently.

Beneath its muscular, rakish, coach-built body lies the most powerful Crewe-builtV8 engine ever produced, developing 530bhp. Maximum torque is 1050Nm, the highest ever developed by a production V8 engine.

Bentley Brooklands – V8 Engine Launched in the Bentley S2 saloon in 1959 with a capacity of 6.23 litres, the legendary, Crewe built V8 engine has continually evolved.

The first V8 was very advanced for its time with an all-aluminium construction and produced nearly 200bhp and 400Nm of torque at low engine speeds, the hallmark of every Bentley ever produced.

1969 saw the capacity grow to 6.75 litres, where it remains to this day, but by far the most significant change came in 1982, with the introduction of a turbocharger to create the near 300bhp Mulsanne Turbo, a car that transformed the image of Bentley.

Twin turbos Arrived in 2002, developing up to 450bhp. For the 2007 model Arnage, the V8 engine saw a step-change in performance and refinement which became the starting point for the new Bentley Brooklands.

The Bentley Brooklands engine is able to haul all three tons of this car from zero to 60 in 5 seconds flat. It’s got 530 hp and and a huge 774 lb-ft of torque, which is a necessity to get nearly 18 feet of steel moving. The steering is surprisingly nimble, and the ride is of course smooth, all the way up to the car’s top speed of 184 mph.
